Fallacy of our times - How long will this Democracy Survive?

30% (approx) of opinion of people of India control the fate of 100% of the citizenry. Towards own followers political appeasement the Nationalist Party has effected Demonetisation-2. The gamble will soon be clear. We were told that the counterfeit - black money was used by terrorists and anti-nationals across the borders. To many's dismay the money was all returned to the coffers of RBI. Did they come back and accept that they made a miscalculation? Accountability is one very important aspect for a democratic set up which the democratically elected Nationalist Party clearly lacks.

Why should they abolish Article 370?
It is a historical injustice not only with the people of mainland India who are discriminated when it comes to law of the Kashmir land. But also an injustice to Kashmiri's who in the absence of strong state - political leadership are un-employed, prone to violence and remain largely underdeveloped. The only industry flourishing is Tourism and that too facing volatility due to Cross-Border threats and crimes. It is every Indian's wish that Kashmir be integrated with India just as Delhi or Odisha.
Apart from the above, few other concerns that remain are equality to women (who marries inside/outside Kashmir), interests of other mainland Indian's who would want to migrate to Valley just as they do to other Cities etc.

But just before we proceed to think that abrogation of Article 370 would correct that historical injustice we need to pause and think. Summing up 2 and -2 does give 0, however real life situations are not that simple. Just as the Mahatma said, "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind". If the activity done in 1940s and then 1950s with respect to Kashmir was wrong then what is happening today can be just prophesied to be as wrong. It is always easier to comment and blame looking in the hindsight. However those who can see forth know that Populism and Stupidity can never outplay Intellect and Hard Work.

In our Romanticism we often get carried away by the Passions of people around us. In thinking of certain advantages for ourselves we try to influence our own selves into believing what is being told to us as the truth. And to our great dismay as time shall tell we profited nothing but a certain moment of ill-told sensory gratification. And we lost the beauty that was preserved for generations.

My own fear stems more from the way the actions have been taken.
For one this breeds populism even more and sets a trend where might is right overtakes reason and responsibility. Just as much as it is important for Kashmir to be redefined as a UT, it is equally important to place this things before the Supreme Body of this land, the Parliament. I do not criticise the act if that sets to bring goodness to the people of Kashmir and the Country in general. But who is to tell me that. The Parliament [that is chosen by the people, for the people, and of the people] that has debated, discussed and formed an informed opinion that things are right and be taken care in that way. Or the announcement by a minister who himself has played a gamble that focuses on selective fulfillment of the poll promises made while the economy is in shambles. If what Nehru did through a Presidential Order was wrong, how right can the following Order be, only time can tell.

Second fear of mine comes from the fact that investment in India is very down and return on investment at a very low stage. Given the desire of many and greed of some to own land or house the real estate sector especially in Urban cities, this area is witnessing a huge rise. Inequality in India [as like elsewhere in world] has risen greatly. 1% of the rich own such an amount that they can even buy few countries of the world. Be it black or white they have enough to invest in land and raise an empire of their own. What stopped these rich HNIs and Corporates from buying the land in Kashmir was the law of the land that did not permit any outsider to do so. Such a law actually prevented the exploitation of the land and its resources in Kashmir. This actually has helped preserve the beauty of valley that witnesses influx of tourist mainly on that account. As the law dealing with land and its purchase would be redefined (which I pray would not) these vested interests would turn the valley into their resorts and spas. Not that I am totally against such development but this would come at a pace undefined. It would lead to change in the landscape, unsustainable development and most sadly uprooting of current inhabitants and further alienation of the youth and seniors alike.
